Visual Foreign Correspondents Berlin

In VFC-Berlin a network of international artists was invited to reflect in a personal way on the recent events in their region and relate these events to ways in which the world has changed in the two decades since the fall of the Berlin Wall.

VFC-Berlin commissioned seven artists to make screen-based works, looking at specific boundary or border -related issues in their home country. For this selection it sought not only regional diversity but also selected artists on the basis of their interest in specific types of issues.

Starting September 21st 2009 over a period of seven weeks leading up to the anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall, a series of seven works were presented urban screens in Berlin: U-bahn Kochstrasse better known as Checkpoint Charlie, The Collegium Hungaricum and Amsterdam and Melkweg and CASZ in Amsterdam as well as online in Die Zeit (German Daily newspaper), and on the website of the Visual Correspondents Foundation.

Participating artists were: Berit Zemke- Germany, Little Warsaw- Hungary, Lena Merhej- The Lebanon, Giselle Beiguelman- Brazil, Han Hoogerbrugge- The Netherlands, Mariam Ghani- United Sates and Simon Faithfull- Britain.
